Family:Whitney, Orrin (1815-1896)

Orrin⁸ Whitney (William⁷, Samuel⁶, Abner⁵, John⁴, Isaiah³, Thomas², John¹), son of William⁷ and Olive (Parlin) Whitney, was born 18 Aug 1815, Anson, ME, and died 3 May 1896, Kingston, MN. He was buried in Riverside Cemetery, Kingston, MN.

He married firstly, 16 Nov 1840, Presque Isle, ME, Hannah Fairbanks, daughter of Dennis and Hannah (Foster) Fairbanks. She was born 2 Jun 1818, ME, and died 5 Jul 1881, Minneapolis, MN, aged 63 years, widowed. There must have been a divorce, since she was living after Orrin's second and third marriages.

He married secondly, 15 Nov 1865, Minneapolis, MN, Lestina P. (Heaton) Whitmore, daughter of Cyrus and Elizabeth Betsey (Spaulding) Heaton. She was born about 1821, (probably Jamaica) VT, and died 2 Apr 1877, aged 57 years. She was buried in Lakewood Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN. She had married firstly, 17 Feb 1841, La Porte, IN, Russell Whitmore. By the last she had, among others, a son Albert W., born about 1851, IN, who appears in the 1870 census with the family.

He married thirdly, before 1880 (but 10 Mar 1889 according to Pierce), Rebecca Carvill, daughter of Sewall and Tamar (Higgins) Carvill. She was born 23 Dec 1827, Lewiston, ME, and died 1 Feb 1919, Somerville, MA, aged 91 years 1 month 9 days, of old age and eneuresis.^[1] She was buried in Riverside Cemetery, Lewiston, ME.^[2]

He is a farmer; resided Kingston, MN.

i.	Augustus E.9 Whitney, b. 19 Jun 1844, Presque Isle, ME; m. Jeannette Depuy.
ii.	Winfield Scott Whitney, b. 4 Jun 1846, ME; m. Ellen Phay.
iii.	Emma Whitney, b. ca. Feb 1850, Cleveland, OH; d. 1868.

Children of Orrin⁸ and Lestina P. (Heaton)(Whitmore) Whitney, if any, unknown.

Children of Orrin⁸ and Rebecca (Carvill) Whitney:

i.	(adopted) Ada Lois Carvill, b. 7 Dec 1867, Brunswick, ME, dau. of Henry and Caroline A. (Hale) Carvill.[3]

Notes

Although the death of Hannah is given by Pierce as 1881, and the marriage to Rebecca as 1889, Orrin and Rebecca are listed as husband and wife in the 1880 census. Furthermore, there is a marriage for Orrin Whitney and Lestina B. Whitmore recorded in Minneapolis, MN, on 15 Nov 1865. That would explain the appearance of Lestina and Albert from the 1870 census. Possibly Albert was her son by a previous marriage. Apparently Orrin had three wives, Hannah, Lestina, and then Rebecca, and the dates given by Pierce are confused.
