Family:Whitney, Richard (1759-1844)
Richard5 Whitney (Richard4, Henry3, John2, Henry1), son of Richard4 and Esther (Clark) Whitney, was born 6 Dec 1759, Ridgefield, CT, and died 10 May 1844, Magnolia, NY, in his 85th year.
He married, 8 Apr 1784, Lenox, MA, Ruth Wilson, daughter of David and Sarah (-----) Wilson of Lenox. She was born 16 Mar 1765, Ridgefield, CT, and died 28 Oct 1851, Magnolia, NY, aged 87 years.
Phoenix says the following:
- . . . a farmer; bore the title of Captain, and was a soldier of the Revolutionary War; . . . . They settled in that part of Ballston, NY, which was set off, 17 March 1792, as Chariton, and about 1793 moved to Brothertown, afterward Paris, now Kirkland, NY; and thence, after a few years, to Westmoreland, and from there, in 1821, to Magnolia, in Chautauqua, NY, where they dwelt the rest of their lives. . . . . They were buried at Magnolia.
