Richard Leet6 Whitney (Josiah Anson5, Richard4, Henry3, John2, Henry1), son of Josiah Anson5 and Sally (Leet) Whitney, was born 24 Sep 1805, Hamilton, Madrid (now Waddington), NY, and died 29 Sep 1883, Aultsville, ON.

He married firstly, 17 Feb 1828, Williamsburgh, ON, Maria Doran, daughter of John and Sophia (Robertson) Doran. she was born 11 Sep 1809, Matilda, ON, and died 29 Jun 1831, Williamsburgh, ON.

He married secondly, 4 Feb 1834, Williamsburgh, ON, Clarissa Jane Fairman, daughter of Amasa and Lucinda (Dewey) Fairman. She was born 11 Oct 1809, Chateaugay, NY, and died 12 Nov 1890, Dundas Co., ON.

Phoenix says the following:

"Richard Leet Whitney, b. at Hamilton, in Madrid, now Waddington, N. Y., 24 Sept. 1805; a blacksmith and, in later life, a farmer; married, 17 Feb. 1828, at Williamsburgh, Dundas Co., Upper Canada, Maria Doran, dau. of John and Sophia (Robertson) Doran, of Williamsburgh. She was born at Matilda, Dundas Co., Canada, 11 Sept. 1809; and died at Williamsburgh, 29 June 1831. He married (2d), 4 Feb. 1834, at Williamsburgh, Clarissa Jane Fairman, dau. of Amasa and Lucinda (Dewey) Fairman, of Chateaugay, N. Y., where she was born 11 Oct. 1809. They dwelt in Williamsburgh till 1846, and then settled in Osnabruck, Stormont Co., Canada West; whence, after cultivating a fine farm for twenty-five years, he removed to the neighboring village of Aultsville, and was still living there in Ap. 1874."
