Family:Whitney, Samuel (1802-1846)
Capt. Samuel7 Whitney (Samuel Austin6, Samuel5, Benjamin4, Thomas3, Thomas2, John1), son of Samuel Austin6 and Ruth (Perkins) Whitney, was born 30 Jul 1802, and drowned 31 Mar 1846, Penobscot Bay, ME, aged 46 years.[1]
He married, 21 Nov 1844, Rebecca Witherle Howe. She drowned 31 Mar 1846, Penobscot Bay, ME.
For many years he was a merchant in New Orleans, LA, and was highly esteemed for his worth and public spirit. He died drowned in Penobscot Bay with his wife, 31 Mar 1846. The boat in which Capt. Whitney and his wife were riding came in collision with a huge cake of ice which made a hole in the bow. It sank and both were drowned. Resided Castine, ME.
