Family:Whitney, Solomon (1780-1866)
Solomon6 Whitney (Joseph5, Abel4, Nathaniel3, Benjamin2, John1), son of Joseph5 and Mehitable (Stevens) Whitney, was born 23 Jun 1780, Gorham, ME,[1] and died 7 Dec 1866, Troy, Waldo Co., ME.[2]
He married (intentions 13 Feb 1808, Gorham, ME), Phebe Gilkey, daughter of Joseph and Phebe (Larrabee) Gilkey. She was born 3 Jun 1782, Gorham, ME, and died after 1860, and probably before 1870. She may be the "Old Mrs. Whitney" who died 18 Nov 1862, Troy, ME.[3] Phebe is the sister of the Samuel Gilkey who married Betty (Betsey) Whitney, the dau. of Joseph5 and Betty (Phinney) Whitney.

Both Charles and Mary Eliza died in Troy, ME, he on 27 May 1858, and she on 14 Dec 1894. They had four children, all born in Troy. ii. Joseph Whitney, b. 29 Jun 1813, Unity, ME;[6] d. 26 Feb 1891. iii. William G. Whitney, b. 21 May 1815, Unity, ME;[7] m.(1) Esther Chase; m.(2) Sarah E. (Carr) Newcomb. iv. James Whitney, b. 7 May 1818, Unity, ME;[8] m. Adeline Hamilton. v. Lemuel Bartlett Whitney, b. 31 Dec 1821, Troy, ME;[9] m. Sarah P. Miller. vi. Abner Knowles Whitney, b. 20 Jun 1822, Unity, ME;[10] d. 4 Aug 1829, Troy, ME.[11] vii. Elizabeth S. Whitney, b. 27 Aug 1826, Troy, ME;[12] d. 19 Feb 1893; m. 13 Dec 1851, Burnham or Troy, ME, Samuel Conner.[13]
