William Whitney (John), son of John and Ann (Jones) Whitney, baptized 27 Aug 1814, Glasbury, Breconshire, Wales,[1] and died after 1855.

He married, 16 Jul 1845, St. Peter, Glasbury, Breconshire, Wales, Mary Price, daughter of (probably Philip) and Jane (-----) Price. She was born circa 1823, Glasbury, Breconshire, Wales, and died after 1881. She probably was the Mary Price baptized 18 Jan 1818, St. Peter, Glasbury, Breconshire, Wales.

In 1851 he was listed as a miller in Aberllunvey. In 1861, his widowed wife Mary was listed as a miller, residing in the mill house in Aberllunvey, and the family enumerated just after them was listed as an innkeeper residing at Three Cocks.

Mary (Price) Whitney married, second, before 1871, William Bowen. He was born circa 1827, Lambeder, Radnorshire, Wales. He was a miller.

In 1871, the family resided at Three Cocks Mill, Aberllunvey.

Description of Aberllynfi:

ABERLLUNVEY, (Aberllynfi), a parish in the hundred of Talgarth, and union of Hay, in the county of Brecon, South Wales, 4 miles S.W. of Hay. It is situated at the confluence of the Llunvey and the Wye. The parish is united with Glasbury, and is commonly considered a hamlet or chapelry thereto. There is no church. The inhabitants marry and bury at Glasbury, but they pay no church-rates. No tithes have been paid here within the memory of man. An old yew-tree tells where once a church stood, and persons lately living could recollect tombstones. The ground is now covered with fir-trees. Aberllunvey is on the south bank of the Wye, and in the midst of scenery beautiful and diversified.

Note that Three Cocks is located within Aberllynfi Parish.

Children of William and Mary (Price) Whitney:

i. (probably) William Whitney, b. ca. 1846, Aberllunvey, Breconshire, Wales. There is some doubt that he was a son of this couple. Although listed as a son in 1861, he is not listed with the family in 1851, even though he would only have been aged about 5 years. In 1871, he resided in Dunstable, Bedfordshire, England, where he was a draper's assistant.
ii. Lewis E. Whitney, b. ca. 1849, Aberllunvey, Breconshire, Wales, bapt. 3 Mar 1850, St. Peter, Glasbury, Breconshire, Wales; m. Eliza Skelton.

iv. Mary Ann Whitney, b. ca. 1857, Aberllunvey, Breconshire, Wales, bapt. 23 Mar 1856, St. Peter, Glasbury, Breconshire, Wales. She was probably the Maryann, age 25, b. Aberllunvey, wife of John P. Vaughan. Son William I. Vaughan, b. ca. 1880, Glasbury. They were enumerated just three families from William and Mary (-----)(Whitney) Bowen at the mill house.
