Family:Whitney, William W. (1807-1872)
William W.8 Whitney (John Rodman7, William6, Thomas5, William4, William3, Joshua2, John1), son of John Rodman7 and Catherine (Schoonover) Whitney, was born 9 Mar 1807, NY, and died 15 Nov 1872, Camden, OH.
He married, Ann Sigsworth, daughter of Thomas and Mary Ann (Reed) Sigsworth. She was born 7 Mar 1808, Thorton, Yorkshire, England, and died 3 Apr 1870, Camden, OH.
He had come to Camden in 1834. He purchased a farm in Camden, a portion of which now constitutes the village of Kipton. When the "Toledo, Norwalk and Cleveland" railroad (now the New York Central) was built through Camden, in 1852, and a village would come into being, Mr. Whitney laid out a village (the part of Kipton west of the main highway) and named it "Binghamton", from his native town. However, the name never appeared except upon the record of deeds, for some reason, and the village was dubbed "Kipton".
