Zachariah5 Whitney (Zachariah4, Ebenezer3, Richard2, John1), son of Zachariah4 and Ruth (Taylor) Whitney, was born 2 or 27 Oct 1732, Pomfret, CT,[1] and died 26 Sep 1808, Montague, MA, aged 76 years.[2]

Zachariah married, before 28 May 1762, Sarah Stanton. daughter of Thomas and Sarah (Staples) Stanton. She was born about 1738 and died 3 Aug 1809, MA.

He appeared on the census of 1790, Montague, MA.

Pierce says the following:[3]

Zachariah WHITNEY was born in Conn. where he resided until 1765. While residing in Mansfield, Windham Co., Conn., he purchased of persons in Pomfret, Conn., at various times, as per deeds in possession of his great-grandson, Alvin E. WHITNEY, of Beachmont, Revere, Mass., lands in the district of Montague, in the township of Sunderland, Mass., as it was then. Later it was incorporated as a separate township. He was a farmer and one of the pioneers of that part of western Mass.
