Family:Whitney, Zadok (1814-1897)
Zadok7 Whitney (Jeremiah6, Hezekiah5, Hezekiah4, Joseph3, John2, Henry1), son of Jeremiah6 and Elizabeth (Underhill) Whitney, was born 30 Sep 1814, Plattekill, NY, and died 7 Apr 1897, Churchville, NY. He was buried in Creekside Cemetery, Churchville, NY.[1]
He married, 25 Jan 1838, Shelby, NY, Ann Eliza Curtis, daughter of Newman and Maria (Van Bergen) Curtis. She was born 1 Oct 1822, Dalton, MA, and died 16 Feb 1909, Churchville, NY. She was buried in Creekside Cemetery, Churchville, NY.[2]
They settled in Shelby, NY; moved, 1 Apr 1840, to Barre, NY; returned to Shelby, 1 Apr 1841; went back to Barre, 1 Mar 1845; and thence, 1 Apr 1852, to Sweden, NY, where they were living in 1874, two miles north, and the same distance west, from Churchville Station, on the Central Railway.

Lyman John Whitney, b. 14 Aug 1841, Barre, NY; m. Roselia Alcebia Crittenden. iii. Maria Elizabeth Whitney, b. 10 May 1843, Shelby, NY; m. 9 Mar 1862, Churchville in Riga, NY, James V. Dewey; b. 28 Aug 1837, Gates, NY, son of Hon. Joseph and Maria (Ranney) Dewey; resided Penfield, Gates, and Ogden, NY, and Oran Township, IA. iv. Martha Janet Whitney, b. 10 Apr 1846, Barre, NY; m. 6 Mar 1870, Churchville in Riga, NY, John Morris Duff, b. 29 Aug 1843, Hartland, NY, son of John and Laura (Sprague) Duff; a physician; graduated at Buffalo Medical College, 22 Feb 1870; settled at Gaines, PA; moved thence, 1 Aug 1872, to Alabama Centre, NY; and from there, 16 May 1874, went to Royalton, NY, where they were living, without children, in Sep 1874. He enlisted at Hulberton, NY, 11 Aug 1862, in Company K, 129th Regiment, New York State Volunteer Infantry. The regiment was changed to the 8th Heavy Artillery, in the Winter of 1862-1863, while stationed at Baltimore, MD. He was with his regiment, and doing duty the whole time, without sickness or wounds, till mustered out at Bailey's Cross Roads, VA, 21 Jun 1865. He took part in the battles of Spottsylvania, Cold Harbor, and Petersburgh, 16-22 Jun 1864, and in nearly all the battles about Petersburgh, till the close of the war. v.
