- He served in the Revolutionary war in the Massachusetts state troops, and Apr. 4, 1835, was granted a pension while living in Cumberland Co., Me.
From the Military Pension Record of Zebulon Whitney, National Archives Building, Washington, D.C.:
- He was a private in the company commanded by Captain Parker in Col. Wade's Regiment of the Massachusetts State troops. He enlisted in said company in the month of June, 1778, and was marched to Rhode Island, and was in the service for the term of six months, being the term for which he enlisted. He was then discharged and returned to his home in Gorham, where he has ever since resided. The company in which he enlisted was in the latter part of his term commanded by Captain Lemont.
- I was born in York in this State, and my birth is recorded at said York. I resided in Gorham at the time I enlisted and have remained in said Gorham ever since the Revolutionary War. I did not receive a written discharge.
Further:
- Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Secretary's Office, May 18, 1833
- I hearby certify, That, from an examination of the Books and Documents, relating to Military Services in the War of the Revolution, which remain in this Department, it appears that Zebulon Whitney's name is borne on a Roll having served under Captain Benjamin Lemont in Colonel Nathaniel Wade's Regiment from June 25, 1778, and was allowed six months, nineteen days (including time for travel) for service done in Rhode Island.
