Rev. George Armstrong9 Whitney (Daniel Milo8, Samuel7, Samuel6, Joseph5, Timothy4, John3, John2, John1), son of Daniel Milo8 and Emily (Reynolds) Whitney, was born 29 Sep 1838, Green Bay, WI, and died 14 Feb 1903.

He married, 13 Aug 1867, Marian Josephine Sherwood, daughter of Capt. Joseph and Phoebe Charlotte (Stanford) Sherwood. She was born 5 May 1842, and died 29 Jun 1906.

He was born at Green Bay, Brown County, WI, 29 Sep 1838; his early life was passed there with the exception of two years at school in Whitehall, NY, Whitehall academy, Prof. Werden Reynolds being the principal. In the fall of 1858 he entered Nashotah Theological seminary, Wisconsin, as a preparatory student under the Rev. James Dekoven, D.D., and afterwards completed his collegiate course under him at Racine college, taking in due time [1862] his master's degree from that institution. His theological studies were taken up and finished at Nashotah where he was ordained to the diaconate by the Rt. Rev. Jackson Kemper, D.D., first Bishop of Wisconsin. He was also advanced to the priesthood by Bishop Kemper in old St. Paul's church, Milwaukee, in 1866. Since then has been engaged in his work, holding charges in Wisconsin, Michigan and Illinois, being for the past eight years until going to Iowa, in the diocese of Chicago; resided Maquoketa, IA.

He was rector of St. James's Episcopal Church, Green Bay, WI, from 1876 to 1879.

He was rector of the Episcopal Church in Lisbon, WI, in 1880.

He officiated at the first services at Christ Church, Winnetka, IL, 1 Jul 1883.
