He married, before 1844, Electa Howard. She was born about 1822, Oneida Co., NY, and died 1905. Mexico, New York. She was buried in Mexico Village Cemetery, Mexico, NY.[2]

Notes
They lived in Mexico, NY, amidst many other Whitney families, but no connection with them is apparent. It seems possible that he was the eldest child of Hezekiah and Miranda (Fuller) Whitney. If so, then the widow Horace's son Frederick married secondly Horace's younger brother.
