Hon. James Phinehas8 Whitney (Thomas7, Phinehas6, William5, William4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of Thomas7 and Henrietta (Parker) Whitney, was born Shirley, 8 Aug 1802, MA,[1] and "Hon." died 14 Jan 1847, Shirley, MA, aged 44 years 6 months 13 days, of consumption, merchant.[2]

Marriage intentions were published 8 May 1836, Shirley, MA, for him "Esq." and Lydia B. P. Treadwell "of Ipswich".[3] He married firstly, 31 May 1836, recorded both Beverly and Ipswich, MA, Lydia Bowes Parker Treadwell "of Ipswich",[4][5] daughter of Moses and Lydia Bowes (Parker) Treadwell.[6] She was born 6 Aug 1815, Ipswich, MA,[7] and died 28 Feb 1842, Shirley, MA, aged 26 years 6 months 22 days, of consumption.[8]

Marriage intentions were published 24 May 1846, Shirley, MA, for him "Hon." and Sarah Ann Treadwell "of Ipswich".[9] He married secondly, 10 Jun 1846, Ipswich, MA Sarah Ann Treadwell,[10] daughter of Moses and Lydia Bowes (Parker) Treadwell.[11] She was born 18 May 1819, Ipswich, MA.[12] She married secondly, 13 Sep 1855, Worcester, MA, Isaac C. Kendall, b. ca. 1800, Ipswich, MA, son of Ephraim and Lydia (-----) Kendall.page 271

He was born in Shirley, MA, where he always resided. Educated at the public schools there and at Lawrence academy, Groton, MA, where he graduated. For twenty years he was one of the most prominent residents in that part of the Old Bay State; was representative in the legislature, also state senator for several terms. He held all the town offices at different times and for years was town treasurer. He resided Shirley, MA.
