John Mortimer8 Whitney (Erastus Davis7, Peter6, Peter5, Josiah4, Josiah3, [prob.] Benjamin2, John1), son of Erastus Davis7 and Hannah (Wilkinson) Whitney, was born 6 Apr 1835, Lancaster, NY, and died 23 Mar 1916, Alexandria, SD.[1] He was buried in Green Hill Cemetery, Wayne Township, SD.

He married, 1 Aug 1869, Sac Co., IA, Nancy Rebecca Gilbert,[2] dau. of John Freed and Elizabeth Mercy (Livengold) Gilbert. She was born 24 Sep 1842, Center, IN, and died 27 Apr 1927, Alexandria, SD.
