Family:Whitney, Joseph (1806-1883)

Joseph⁷ Whitney (Abel⁶, Benjamin⁵, Joseph⁴, Joseph³, Jonathan², John¹), son of Abel⁶ and Phebe (Scott) Whitney, was born 27 Jan 1806, Tunbridge, VT, and died 25 Oct 1883, Tunbridge, VT.

He, of Tunbridge, VT, married firstly, 18 Mar 1844, Warren, VT, Emily A. Pierce, of Warren, VT.^[1]

He married, possibly secondly, before 1850, Caroline Pierce,^[2] daughter of Amos and Caroline (-----) Pierce. She was born about 1815, VT, and died after 1870.

The two wives may actually be the same person.

He resided Tunbridge, VT.

D, 9th VT INF, pow, Newport Barracks, 2/2/64, Andersonville, d/prison 8/8/64 (diarrhea) born: 07/09/1847, Tunbridge, VT; died 08/08/1864; buried: Andersonville National Cemetery, GA (cenotaph not identified)."[4]
ii.	Ransom Whitney, b. 24 Jun 1849, Tunbridge, VT;[5] m.(1) Sarah B. (Johnston) Clark; m.(2) Frances L. (Williams) Havens; m.(3) Caroline (Jones) Patch.
iii.	James Pierce Whitney, b. ca. 1855, VT; m. Rosa Goodale.
