Joseph Whitney, parentage unknown (but see notes below), was born say 1755, place unknown, and died after 1790 (see notes below).

He married 15 Jun 1780, Pomfret, CT, Mary Lyon,[1] daughter of Jonathan and Rebecca (Moseley) Lyon. She was born 10 Mar 1754, Pomfret, CT, and died 1797.

Children of Joseph and Mary (Lyon) Whitney:

i. Joseph Whitney, b. 9 Mar 1781, Pomfret, CT.[2]
ii. Arminda Whitney, b. 29 Jan 1783, Pomfret, CT.[3]
iii. Jonathan Whitney, b. 20 May 1785, Pomfret, CT.[4]
iv. Rebeckah Whitney, b. 12 Jul 1790, Pomfret, CT;[5] d. 1850; m. 1815, Levi Clark.

Notes

It is possible that he was identical to Joseph5 Whitney, son of Benjamin4 and Rebecca (Beal) Whitney, born 8 Oct 1754, Willington, CT.

It seems likely that he was identical to the Joseph Whitney who died 27 Jan 1819, Ellington, CT.[6]
