Rufus W. Whitney (Royal) son of Royal and Lydia A. (Kirby) Whitney, was born 26 Sep 1848, IN, and died 20 Jun 1935, Alexandria, IN, aged 86 years 8 months 15 days, of accidental gas asphyxiation.[1] He was buried in Parkview Cemetery, Alexandria, IN.[2]

He married, 12 Sep 1871, Warren Co., OH, Phoebe Matilda "Tillie" Sharp,[3] daughter of Charles and Sarah (-----) Sharp. She was born Aug 1848, OH, and died 1934, Alexandria, IN. She was buried in Parkview Cemetery, Alexandria, IN.[4]

He received a pension for service in the Civil War as a Private, Co. G, 88th Indiana Infantry, beginning 31 Aug 1866.[5]

(Dosch) Arnold, bur. Parkview Cemetery, Alexandria, IN.[8]
iii. Mary M. Whitney, b. Aug 1877, OH; "Maggie" m. 6 Jun 1900, Jay Co., IN, Oliver D. Reef, b. ca. 1873, IN, son of Jacob and Sarah A. (Wiest) Reef.[9]
iv. (child) Whitney, b. say 1879; not in family 1880; deduced from 1900 census.
