Kyser" <sorryken -at- worldnet.att.net> Subject: [WHITNEY-L] Order of the Cincinnati Date: Sun, 4 Jun 2000 03:57:11 -0500 Some sources, incl. the Whitney Whistler, say that William (Thomas-William-William-Joshua-John) Whitney was inducted into the Order of the Cincinnati. This seems rather unlikely, because although he may have risen to Brig. Gen. in the New York Militia in the decades after Revolution, the patriot indexes list him as "soldier" or "private" during the War itself. (Perhaps a wishful descendant is confusing him with some other William Whitney; there's an officer a year older, also b. CT, who m. Katherine Hall.) Are the Order's rolls open to public view, and if so where? How many Whitneys are on them? Cheers, Ron Kyser
