George Henry Whitney, born in Quincy, removed to Haverhill when about ten years old. After two years in the high school he attended for one year a commercial school in Boston, and then engaged with his father in the box business. He was married in Jun 1876, and died the following March, at the age of twenty-five, having contracted a severe cold which terminated in quick consumption. He possessed a keen thirst for knowledge, and his intellectual ambition no doubt enriched his mind at the expense of health and life. There was also a sturdy principle of truth, rectitude and integrity running through his whole nature. He was very proud of the name he bore and was an honor to it. George Henry9 Whitney (Harrison Otis8, William7, Peter6, Aaron5, Moses4, Moses3, Richard2, John1), son of Harrison Otis8 and Ann E. (Marsh) Whitney, was born 30 Jan 1852, Quincy, MA, and died 14 Mar 1877, Haverhill, MA.
He married, 8 Jun 1876, Haverhill, MA, Ida E. Lake, daughter of Leverett and Elizabeth (-----) Lake. She was born 19 Oct 1852. She married secondly, 19 Oct 1886, Haverhill, MA, Charles K. Fox.[1]
