Herbert Waldo⁸ Whitney (Otis⁷, Lemuel⁶, Josiah⁵, Richard⁴, Richard³, Richard², John¹), son of Otis⁷ and Hannah (Parker) Whitney, was born 6 Sep 1846, and died 18 Dec 1909.

He married, 4 Sep 1870, Emma A. Marble, daughter of Warren and Mary Lane (Wilker) Marble. She was born 16 Mar 1852, Ashburnham, MA, and died 16 Nov 1875. Pierce states the marriage year of 1869, but Herbert was living in the family of his parents in the 1870 census.

He married secondly, 30 Oct 1878, Ella Maria (Atwood) Ellis, daughter of Varanes Constantine and Hannah Parker (Weston) Atwood. She was born 16 Sep 1849, Nelson, NH, and died 9 Feb 1915, Fitchburg, MA. She had married firstly, 23 Apr 1868, Nelson, NH, John Edward Ellis, from whom she was divorced.

He resided New Ipswich, NH.
