Jonathan5 Whitney (James4, Joseph3, Jonathan2, John1), son of James4 and Eleanor (Robbins) Whitney, was born 15 Aug 1745, Dunstable, MA,[1] and died 1834.[2]

He "of Jaffrey, N.H." married, 7 May 1772, Fitzwilliam, NH, Abigail Hemminway, daughter of Joseph and Mary (Adams) Hemminway. She was born 26 Apr 1749, Framingham, MA.

His father's estate was probated 4 Jul 1757, Dunstable, MA, Thomas Harwood of Dunstable, N.H., innholder, was appointed guardian of John, Jonathan, Elizabeth, Benjamin, and Lucy, all minors under 14, children of James Whitney, late of Dunstable, deceased, and posted bond with William Angier of Cambridge as surety; estate was probated 23 Oct 1760 at Dunstable, MA; petition of John and Jonathan Whitney, choosing Thomas Harwood of Dunstable as their guardian. On 5 Mar 1764, Dunstable, MA, Thomas Harwood of Dunstable, N.H., innholder, was appointed guardian of John and Jonathan Whitney, over 14, sons of James Whitney late of Dunstable, deceased, and posted bond with William Angier of Cambridge, gentleman, as surety.

He lived between 1772 and 1805, Fitzwilliam, NH. He lived between 1805 and 1834, Hartland, VT.

Pierce says the following:[3]

Jonathan WHITNEY, in company with his brother John, purchased a farm in 1780 at Fitzwilliam, N. H. About 1810 he disposed of his interest to one SANFORD, and moved to Hartland, Vt.

v. Abagail Whitney, b. between 1779 and 1780.
vi. Jonathan Whitney, b. 6 Apr 1783; m. Miranda Marvin.
vii. Charles Whitney, b. 17 Jun 1786; m.(1) Abigail Smith; m.(2) Samantha -----.
viii. Calvin Whitney, b. 25 May 1788; Polly Williams.
