A descendant of Harriet Whitney Bird has in her possession a family heirloom ring that is inscribed "Eliza M Whitney, obt. Jan 22, 1822 - AE* 32".  This could be a clue as to who William's family might have been.  According to this clue, it seems likely that the above William was a son of [[Family:Whitney, William (1792-1859)|William7 and Sarah (Butler) Whitney]] of Boston.  The elder William had a sister Betsey Marshall7 Whitney who was baptized 31 May 1789, Boston, MA, who is a likely candidate for "Eliza M Whitney" of the ring.

Notes

A descendant of Harriet Whitney Bird has in her possession a family heirloom ring that is inscribed "Eliza M Whitney, obt. Jan 22, 1822 - AE* 32". The elder William had a sister Betsey Marshall7 Whitney who was baptized 31 May 1789, Boston, MA, who is a likely candidate for "Eliza M Whitney" of the ring.
