Herbert Waldo⁸ Whitney (Otis⁷, Lemuel⁶, Josiah⁵, Richard⁴, Richard³, Richard², John¹), son of Otis⁷ and Hannah (Parker) Whitney, was born 12 Jun 1847, Ashburnham, MA,^[1] and died 18 Dec 1909.

He married, 2 or 4 Sep 1870, New Ipswich, NH, Emma A. Marble,^[2] daughter of Warren and Mary Lane (Wilker) Marble. She was born 16 Mar 1852, Ashburnham, MA, and died 16 Nov 1877, Ashburnham, MA, aged 25 years 8 months, of consumption.^[3] Pierce states the marriage year of 1869, but Herbert was living in the family of his parents in the 1870 census.

He married secondly, 30 Oct or 1 Nov 1878, Peterborough, NH, Ella Maria (Atwood) Ellis,^[4] daughter of Varanes Constantine and Hannah Parker (Weston) Atwood. She was born 16 Sep 1849, Nelson, NH, and died 9 Feb 1915, Fitchburg, MA. She had married firstly, 23 Apr 1868, Nelson, NH, John Edward Ellis, from whom she was divorced.

He resided New Ipswich, NH.
