Henry Martyn⁷ Whitney (Samuel Starfield⁶, Thomas⁵, James⁴, Henry³, John², Henry¹), son of Samuel Starfield⁶ and Lois (Stewart) Whitney, was born 7 Feb 1822, Darien, CT, and died after Jun 1877.

He married, 26 Feb 1851, Poundridge, NY, Eliza Jane Hobby, daughter of Philander and Betsey Ann (Weed) Hobby. She was born 17 Jun 1832, Stamford, CT, and died after Jun 1877.

Phoenix says the following:

". . . a shoemaker . . . . They settled at Stamford, and were living there in June 1877. He has lived, for two years, in New York, and sometimes in New Canaan, Conn. He served in the war of 1861, having enlisted 18 Aug. 1862; and was discharged 28 Aug. 1863."

iv.	Preston Eugene Whitney, b. 4 Jun 1865; m. Mamie/May Dunne.

Notes

He was named after Henry Martyn (1781-1812), an Anglican missionary to India and Persia, remembered for his courage, selflessness and his religious devotion.
