John5 Whitney (Samuel4, Joshua3, David2, Samuel1), was born 23 Mar 1750, and died 20 Mar 1818.

He married, about 1774, Ann Merritt, daughter of Thomas Merritt. She was born 6 Dec 1758, died 12 Feb 1835.

He resided Halifax Co., NC, 1772-1780, and is first found in South Carolina in 1789.

In 1790 he was living in Pendleton County, SC.

ii. Elisabeth Whitney, b. 22 Jun 1777.
iii. Katherine / Catron Whitney, b. 16 Feb 1779. She m. 24 Oct 1816, Thompson C. Berry, son of George and Sarah Berry. She d. 10 Jun 1852.
iv. John Whitney, b. 30 Dec 1780, m. Martha Fenny.
v. Samuel Whitney, b. 17 Sep 1782, m. Rhody D. Tinsley.
vi. Thomas Whitney, b. 3 Mar 1786.
vii. Loammi Whitney, b. 9 Apr 1790, m. Jane Bush.
viii. Agness Whitney, b. 13 Apr 1792, m. (1) 17 Jun 1811, Daniel Stark. She m. (2) John Martin.
ix. Uriah Whitney, b. Oct 1794, m. Elizabeth Holder.
x. Cynthia Whitney, b. ca. 1800, m. 4 Apr 1821, Walter Bush.
