Family:Whitney, Joshua (1718-1761)

Joshua⁴ Whitney (David³, Joshua², John¹), son of David³ and Elizabeth (Warren) Whitney,^[1] was born 11 Oct 1718, Plainfield, CT,^[2] and died 10 Feb 1761, Plainfield, CT.^[3]

He married 8 Apr 1742, Amy Blodgett,^[4] daughter of William and Sarah (Hall) Blodgett.^[5] She was born 16 Feb 1724, Plainfield, CT,^[6] and died 24 Dec 1819, Canaan, CT, aged 96 years.^[7]

She married secondly, after 14 Nov 1767, Isaac Lawrence,^[8] son of Daniel and Sarah (-----) Lawrence,^[9] as his second wife. He was born 25 Feb 1704/5, Groton, MA,^[10] and died 2 Dec 1793, Canaan, CT.^[11] He had married firstly Lydia Hewitt.^[12]

She married thirdly, about 1798, George Palmer,^[13] son of George and Hannah (Palmer) Palmer,^[14] as his second wife. He was born 6 Sep 1719, Stonington, CT,^[15] and died 1 Dec 1809, Stillwater, NY.^[16] He had married firstly Hannah Marsh.^[17]

Pierce says the following:^[18]

He was born in Groton, Mass. and removed to Plainfield, Conn. with his parents, where he resided until his removal to Preston, Conn. The tradition in the family is that he was a soldier in the French and Indian war, and that about 1759 he was killed by Indians near Oswego, N.Y. Feb. 17, 1759, he was dead, for at that time his son Joshua chose Col. David WHITNEY of Canaan, as his guardian.

iv.	Joshua Whitney, b. 25 Mar 1750, Plainfield, CT;[23] m. Sally Cochran.
v.	Josiah Whitney, b. 11 Aug 1752, Plainfield, CT;[24] nothing further known, although he may be the Josias Whitney appearing in the 1800 Census in Ulster Co., NY, with a wife and four children.
vi.	Huldah Whitney, b. 20 Jan 1755, Plainfield, CT;[25] m. Elias Palmer.
vii.	David Whitney, b. 25 Mar 1757, Norfolk, CT;[26] m.(1) ----- -----; m.(2) Phebe Bennett; m.(3) Eliza Wilson.
viii.	Elizabeth Sarah Whitney, b. 18 Dec 1759, Norfolk, CT;[27] d. 3 Feb 1760, Norfolk, CT.[28]
ix.	Amy Whitney, b. 23 Mar 1761, Norfolk, CT;[29] m. Nathaniel Stevens.
