Joseph6 Whitney (Joseph5, Thomas4, Thomas3, Thomas2, John1), son of Joseph5 and Hannah (Chandler) Whitney, was born 28 Oct 1748, Roadstown (now Shutesbury), MA, and died 29 Dec 1813
He married, 15 Dec 1771, Abigail Barnard. She was born 5 Jan 1751 and died 27 Dec 1813.
He was probably born in Shelburne, where he was married and was a farmer. During the Revolutionary war he served in one of the companies from Shelburne, and his name is found on the Revolutionary records in the State House of Boston. His farm was located one mile north of the old center. He and his wife were both interred in one grave. They were admitted to the church by letter in 1778, probably from Shutesbury. He resided Shelburne, MA.

She d. 24 Jan 1858. He d. 29 Sep 1844. iii. Hannah Whitney, b. 20 Jul 1788; m. 14 Jul 1793, Igal Fellows. He d. 28 May 1849. Was b. 14 Jul 1783; resided Shelburne. She d. 11 Apr 1859. iv. Abigail Whitney, b. 13 Feb 1786; m. 2 Oct 1808, Rev. Amariah Chandler. He was married three times, this being his first wife. Rev. Dr. Amariah Chandler was b. 27 Oct 1782, in Deerfield, MA. He graduated at college in Burlington, VT; was ordained at Waitsfield, VT, in 1810, and preached later at Hardwick, VT, and Greenfield, MA. His wife d. at the latter place 19 Jan 1833; ae. 47. He d. 20 Oct 1864. - Ch.: Henry Satterlee Lewis, b. 20 Aug 1809; m. Merietta Joslyn; Clarissa Naomi, b. 25 Jan 1811; ma. George F.
