He married 25 Nov 1858, Utica, MO Mary Anne Conrad, born 8 Mar 1838, Newry, PA.
While he was an infant his parents removed to western New York, and in 1845 to Madison, Indiana. He received his education at Hanover College, Hanover, Jefferson County, Indiana, taking the degree of B.A., Sept. 18, 1858.
