He also owned a steam ferryboat and was engaged in ferrying the California emigrants across the river at that place in an early day. His first wife died childless soon after marriage. He died in 1851, leaving a widow and several small children, viz., Chester, Otis and Emeline. In 1853 the children went to live with their uncle Baxter in Vermont. He died 1851; resided Shockoken, Illinois.

Solon8 Whitney (Chester7, Aaron6, Nathan5, Nathan4, Thomas3, Thomas2, John1), son of Chester7 and Polly Waite (Green) Whitney, was born 1810, Waterbury, VT, and died 1851, Shockoken, IL.

He married firstly, Lucy B. Noble.

He married secondly, Emeline Butler. She died 1852.

He was born in Waterbury, VT, about 1810, and moved from that state to Illinois about 1835, where he was engaged in farming near Shockoken, in Henderson county, across the Mississippi river from Burlington, IA. He also owned a steam ferryboat and was engaged in ferrying the California emigrants across the river at that place in an early day. His first wife died childless soon after marriage.
