John Martyn8 Whitney (William7, Peter6, Aaron5, Moses4, Moses3, Richard2, John1), son of William7 and Zilpah (Eager) Whitney, was born 14 Oct 1816, Northborough, MA,[1] and died 1 Feb 1892, New Haven, CT.

He married firstly, 1 Sep 1841, Mansfield, CT, Susan Maria Campbell. She was born 7 Jul 1820, and died 29 Jan 1859.

He married secondly, 9 Jun 1862, Waterbury, CT, Elizabeth Nancy Chipman. She was born 2 Apr 1824, and died 12 Jun 1892.

He was in his earlier days, a stage driver in the northern part of Connecticut. He was employed by the Adams Express Company when they first opened an office in New Haven. Just previous to his death he was in the employ of English & Merrick, an old carriage hardware house, where he was for thirty-seven years. He was well known and much thought of. He resided New Haven, CT.
