Rev. John7 Whitney (Salmon6, Jonas5, Jonas4, Moses3, Richard2, John1), son of Salmon6 and Hepsabeth (Raymond) Whitney, was born 1 Sep 1803, Harvard, MA,[1] and died 31 May 1879, Newton, MA.

Marriage intentions were published 20 Sep 1835, Boxford, MA, for him "Rev." and Mary A. Jewett "of Gloucester".[2] He "of Boxford" married, 15 Oct 1835, Gloucester, MA, Mary Appleton Jewett,[3] daughter of Rev. David Jewett, of Rockport. She was born 28 Nov 1808.

He was the fifth minister of the first church in Boxford, MA, and was ordained 15 Oct 1834, and dismissed in 1837. He graduated at Amherst in 1831 and was at Andover Theological Seminary in 1834, and at once settled in Boxford. He went to Waltham at the conclusion of his first pastorate and was settled there for twenty years. Then for ten years he was located at Canaan, New York. Later he moved to Newton Centre, MA, where he died. He was a scholarly man and kept up his studies to the end of his life. He resided Boxford and Waltham, MA, Canaan, NY, and Newton Centre, MA.

i. David Jewett8 Whitney, b. 30 Sep 1836, Marblehead, MA; m. 5 Dec 1861, Martha Jane Hinkel; b. 15 Aug 1836. He was for five years in Boston in the dry goods business, and went to New York city in 1857; he resided at 809 East 21st street; was educated at Phillips Academy; is now a commission merchant; s. p.
ii. John Raymond Whitney, b. 18 Jan 1838; d. 27 Sep 1838.
iii. Mary Reed Whitney, b. 1 Mar 1839; m. 20 Nov 1862, F. W. Felton, a lawyer; resided 181 W. Brookline St., Boston.
iv. Elizabeth Jewett Whitney, b. 23 Feb 1841; unmarried; resided at home.
v. Martha Raps Whitney, b. 24 Jul 1843; d. 2 Sep 1843.
vi. Martha Raymond Whitney, b. 6 Jun 1844; d. 24 Sep 1844.
vii. Hannah Ann Jewett Whitney, b. 27 Nov 1846; resided at home.
viii. Maria Delano Whitney, b. 30 Nov 1851.
