Joseph⁸ Whitney (Josiah⁷, Josiah⁶, Josiah⁵, Richard⁴, Richard³, Richard², John¹), born 25 Mar 1811; married 23 Feb 1841, Mary Abbott Newcomb, born 27 Jan 1820.

He was born at Nelson, New Hampshire; is a farmer; has been superintendent of schools, town clerk and selectman; resided Sullivan, New Hampshire.

i.	Ransel N.9 Whitney, born 18 Mar 1842.
ii.	Laurette A. Whitney, born 12 Dec 1847.
iii.	Scolley J. Whitney, born 29 Sep 1853; died 1 Jun 1856.
