Herbert W.⁸ Whitney (Otis⁷, Lemuel⁶, Josiah⁵, Richard⁴, Richard³, Richard², John¹), son of Otis⁷ and Hannah (Parker) Whitney, was born 6 Sep 1846, and died after 1880.

He married, Jun 1869, Emma A. Marble. She was born in MA, and died Nov 1876. Despite the stated marriage year of 1869, Herbert was living in the family of his parents in the 1870 census.

He married secondly, 30 Oct 1878, Ella Maria (Atwood) Ellis, daughter of Varanes Constantine and Hannah Parker (Weston) Atwood. She was born 16 Sep 1849, Nelson, NH, and died 9 Feb 1915, Fitchburg, MA. She had married firstly, 23 Apr 1868, Nelson, NH, John Edward Ellis, from whom she was divorced.

He resided New Ipswich, NH.
