[105.] Whitney, Aaron⁷, s. of Dea. David⁶ and Elizabeth (Barron) Whitney, m. Polly (Martha) (14), dau. of Jonathan and Patty (Downs) Raymond, Jan. 2, 1822, and set. with his f. on the ancestral estate, coming into possession of the N.W. part of the farm, with the corresponding section of the ancient dwelling house in which he lived. He was a quiet unpretending man, of excellent habits and character, and an estimable neighbor and citizen. His death occurred by drowning, at Pettaconsett, R. I., whither he had gone not long before to visit his s. Frederic, Sept. 8, 1886, at the age of 86. His w., Martha, d. many years before, Sept. 11, 1850, a. 52. Chn.:

[111.] Whitney, Calvin⁷, bro. of the last, and a sharer with him of the landed estate of their f., m. Sept. 7, 1837, Huldah (16), dau. of Joseph and Lucy (Holden) Brown. In early life he was engaged in getting out chair stock, but afterward devoted himself wholly to the management of his farm. Himself and wife have been deeply interested in questions of moral and social reform, and through them in the more liberal interpretations of Christianity, becoming at length members of the Universalist Church, of which he was for some years Dea. Two of their daus. have displayed much talent in certain lines of art, and made a creditable reputation for themselves in putting the same to practical use. Mr. and Mrs. Whitney are still living in the enjoyment of a peaceful old age, having celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage several years since, amid the congratulations and kind wishes of a large circle of relatives and friends. [113.] Whitney, John⁷, s. of John⁶, and Elizabeth (Stearns) Whitney, succeeded to his f.'s estate, and spent his life upon it. He m. Lydia, dau. of Dea. Ephraim Allen of Hub. (pub. Sept. 30), 1821, and had a family of 8 chn., all of excellent character and reputation. Mr. and Mrs. W. were much interested in the education of their chn. and had a room in their house fitted up for school purposes, where in conjunction with a few of their neighbors of a like spirit, they maintained a private school for some time, the advantages of which were shared by the writer of this notice. Having been converted to the views of the Baptist denomination, in mid-life, they united with the church of that faith in town, and became active and devoted members, he being appointed Dea. A fearful visitation of typhoid fever in the early winter of 1843-1844 struck down nearly all the members of this household - the father, mother and one child falling victims to it. Mr. Whitney d. Edward Whitney⁸ (133) left his native place at the age of 18 and spent 4 years in the city of New York. He then located in Worc. where he has since res., actively and successfully engaged in business. Interested in whatever is conducive to human welfare, he has done much to promote the better life of the city, and to lift the world to a higher level. For 2 yrs. he was President of the Worc. Y.M.C.A., for several yrs. chairman of the Ex. Com. of the Mass. Y.M.C.A., and for 2 yrs. Pres. of the Worc. Co. Congregational Club. In these and in many other ways has he illustrated a noble type of Christian character.

George Clarkson Whitney⁸ (135), the youngest of the chn. of John⁷ and Lydia (Allen) Whitney, is an enterprising business man of Worc., engaged in the manufacture of fancy stationery, Christmas cards, booklets, etc. His education was obtained in the schools of W., and at Worc. Academy. He enlisted in Co. F, 51st Regt. M. V., for the suppression of the Rebellion. A Republican in politics, with decided temperance principles, he has taken an active part in city affairs, having been 2 yrs. a member of the Com. Council and 4 yrs. Alderman. He is much interested in religious and philanthropic activities. Is a member of the 1st Baptist Chh., and has been Supt. of its Sunday Sch. since 1871. Belongs to the Worc. Y.M.C.A. and was its Pres. 4 yrs. Was charter member of the Worc. Bap. Missy. Board, and is now a Trustee of Worc. Academy; also of the Worc. Hospital and of Home for Aged Women.

[116.] Whitney, Augustine⁸, s. of Nathan⁷ and Ann, m. Mary A.(6) , dau. of Otis and Sally (Minott) Titus, Nov. 2, 1854, and res. on the estate owned by the f. of his w., in the Central Village. He is a carpenter and contractor - a man of ability and moral worth, respected and honored in the town and general

community. He has served as Moderator at tn. meetings, was Selectman 2 yrs., and Rep. to the Gen. Ct. in 1865. Chn.:

[117.] Whitney, Frederic⁸, s. of Aaron⁷ and Martha, m. (1) Sarah Ann, dau. of Levi and Lucy Allen Randell of Providence, N. Y., Sept. 1850. She bore him 1 s. and d. Nov. 22, 1857. He m. (2) Janette C. Vandenburg of Onondaga, N. Y., April 19, 1859. She d., without issue, at Cranston, R. I., Dec., 1881, and he m. (3) Jane McLean of P. E. Island, Oct. 31, 1882. She has 1 chd. Leaving the farm at 21, Mr. W. worked at chair making many years, and was in U. S. Armory at Springfield during the war. He was appointed Supt. of farm connected with State Ind. School at Lanc. 11 years, and later had charge of Providence, R. I., Water Works pumping station 7 yrs. One year he served as Assessor in W., and has filled most worthily the office of Dea. in Cong. Trin. Chh. at both W. and Lanc.-a position still held by him at the latter place where he now res. Chn.:

[120.] Whitney, Stillman⁸, bro. of the last, m. (1) Julia, dau. of Sewell and Polly (Hunting) Moulton of Hub., Dec. 11, 1856. She seems to have d. without issue March 2, 1870, a. 34, and he m. (2) her sr. Mary, April 22, 1871. She bore him 2 chn. and d. Feb. 2, 1888, a. 50. He now has his third wife, name not ascertained. He is a mechanic and resides on Bacon St. Chn.:

[126.] Whitney, Cecil C.⁸, s. of Calvin⁷ and Huldah, m. Eldora J. (27), dau. of Leonard M. Gates, June 5, 1879. They res. in W. a few years, then rem. to Fg., their present home. While here they had 1 chd.:

[128.] Whitney, John Emerson⁸, s. of John⁷ and Lydia, m. Sept. 23, 1844, Cleora. dau. of Abner Allen of Pn. He res. on the place bequeathed to him by his f. a few years, then went to N. H., and subsequently to Grafton, where he still remains. "A strong advocate of what is right in morals and religion." The had here:
