Archive Talk:The Descendants of John Whitney, page 58
p. 58, #171: There was an additional child, Benjamin5 WHITNEY, who is mentioned in the narrative on page 57 as an heir. He was born about 1752-3, married 1 Jul 1779, Dunstable, MA, "Mrs." Rebecca DANFORTH, and died 19 May 1802, aged 49 years, Tyngsborough, MA, according to Dunstable vital records and Tyngsborough vital records. Rebecca was very likely the one born 16 Mar 1759, Dunstable, MA, daughter of Joseph and Mary (RICHARDSON) DANFORTH, since she died 12 Feb 1794, aged 35 years, Tyngsborough, MA, according to Tyngsborough vital records. I have found no record of any children born to this couple.
p. 58, #531: Ellenor5 WHITNEY married firstly, 11 Jun 1761, Dunstable, MA, Isaac POWERS, who was living in 1770. They had one son born in Dunstable. By 1774, she had married secondly, Francis POLLARD. They had three children, one born in Dunstable and two in Winchendon.
p. 58, #539: Abigail5 WHITNEY was, I believe, the one who married 20 Sep 1757, Salisbury, CT, Eliphalet JEWELL, not #581 on page 60.
p. 58, #176: Joshua4 WHITNEY is confused by Pierce, among others, with his two cousins, #184 and #189, both on page 59. I believe that #176 was the one who married Anna ----- (often called Anna BLODGETT, but on what authority, I cannot say), and had the following children:
i. Lydia5 WHITNEY, born 22 May 1737, Preston, CT, married, 7 May 1756, Preston, CT, Enos TRACY (possibly Enoch TRACY in other records). No children found. ii. Lucy WHITNEY, born 28 Apr 1739, Preston, CT, married, 16 Jun 1755, Bolton, CT, Jonathan DARTE. Eleven children born in Bolton, CT. iii. Timothy WHITNEY, born 8 May 1741, Tolland, CT. iv. #584 Asa WHITNEY, born 26 Feb 1743, Preston, CT, married firstly, 5 Aug 1762, Preston, CT, Sarah BARNES; married secondly, 23 Oct 1776, Salisbury, CT, Hepsabeth WATROUS. v. #583 Joshua WHITNEY, born 16 Jan 1745, Preston, CT, married, 9 Jan 1770, Salisbury, CT, Anna ASHLEY.
He died before 20 Jan 1745, when his youngest son was baptized as son of Widow WHITNEY. No record of her death or remarriage have been found.
p. 58, #540: Joshua5 WHITNEY was actually son of #189 on page 59.
p. 58, #541: Benjamin5 WHITNEY was probably son of #184 on page 59.
p. 58, #177: John4 WHITNEY was born in Groton, according to Groton vital records. There was an additional child: * Reuben5 WHITNEY, born 7 Oct 1745, Lebanon, CT, married, 14 Aug 1764, Lebanon, CT, Mary HARMAN. I have found no record of children. Since he was not included among his father's heirs in 1794, it seems likely that he died without surviving issue before that date. In fact, his sister Ruby, born say 1766, may have been named for him, indicating a death soon after his marriage.
p. 58, #177: John4 WHITNEY married, 6 Aug 1744, Lebanon, CT, Elizabeth ADAMS, born 3 Nov 1720, Colchester, CT, daughter of Thomas and Abigail (DAVENPORT) ADAMS.
p. 58, #543: Elijah5 WHITNEY was born 10 Sep 1750, Lebanon, CT.
p. 58, #544: John5 WHITNEY was born 3 Feb 1754, Lebanon, CT, and married Anne -----. Possibly it was he whose marriage to Hannah BELDEN occurred on 17 Feb 1777, Canaan, CT.
p. 58, #545: Betsey5 WHITNEY was born 29 Dec 1759, Lebanon, CT.
p. 58, #546: Ruby5 WHITNEY was born say 1766, and married, about 1786, Salmon HUNT, not Solomon HUNT. They had seven children born in Canaan, CT.
