Alfred6 Whitney (John5, Abraham4, Joseph3, John2, Henry1), son of John5 and Ann (Fox) Whitney, was born 31 Mar 1800, Norwalk, CT, and died 15 Jul 1871, Delanco, NJ. He was buried in the Union Cemetery, Beverly, NJ.
He married firstly, 17 Feb 1825, Schooner Landing, NJ, Rebecca Mayhew. She died 3 Mar 1825.
He married secondly, 21 Jun 1832, Philadelphia, PA, Naomi Smith Gray, daughter of George and Martha (Smith) Gray. She was born 5 Oct 1804, Port Elizabeth, NJ, and died after 1880.
Phoenix says the following:
- "Alfred Whitney, b. at Norwalk, Conn., 31 March 1800; a manufacturer of edge-tools; married, 17 Feb. 1825, at Schooner Landing, N. J., by Rev. Edward Page, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal Church at New Castle, to Rebecca Mayhew, who died, 3 March 1825, only two weeks after marriage. He was married (2d), 21 June 1832, at Philadelphia, Penn.; by Rev. Bartholomew Weed, pastor of Methodist Episcopal Church at Kensington, to Naomi Smith Gray, born at Port Elizabeth, N. J., 5 Oct 1804, dau. of George and Martha (Smith) Gray. They dwelt in Philadelphia, till Dec. 1832; in Bridgeton, N. J., till 1835; in Philadelphia, again, till the Spring of 1843; at Herr's Mills, Penn., till 1845; at Philadelphia, once more, till 1 May 1856; then settled at Delanco, N.J., where he died, 15 July 1871. He was buried in the Union Cemetery, at Beverly, N. J. She was living at Delanco, in June 1875."
Alfred6 and Rebecca (Mayhew) Whitney had no children.

Alfred Whitney, b. 31 Dec 1836, Philadelphia, PA; m.(1) Achsah Deacon Dobbins; m.(2) Amanda Pritchett. iv. George C. Whitney, b. 15 Dec 1841, Philadelphia, PA; m. Louise Amelia Stecker. v. Caroline Whitney, b. 30 Apr 1847, Philadelphia, PA; m. 6 Feb 1872, Delanco, NJ, John Baptist Bernadou Staley; a clerk, son of John Hurst and Eloise Louisa (Bernadou) Staley, of Philadelphia, where he was born, 22 Jul 1841, at 263 South Front Street. They settled at Delanco, and were living there in Apr 1876. He enlisted, 22 Jul 1861, as sergeant of Co. B, 81st Reg., Penn. Volunteers; was discharged 28 Jan 1863, being ill with typhoid fever, having taken part in the battles of Fair Oaks, 31 May and 1 Jun 1862, Peach Orchard, 29 Jun 1862, and Malvern Hill, 1 Jul 1862. He again enlisted, 1 Aug 1863; was detailed as regimental recruiting sergeant in 345yh Reg., N.J. Volunteers; was mustered in, 8 Oct 1863, as first sergeant of Co. F; and was discharged as regimental commissary sergeant, 1 May 1866, more than one year after the surrender of the rebels.
