Chancy Wright7 Whitney (Dennis6, Samuel5, Eliakim4, Nathan3, John2, Henry1), son of Dennis6 and Elizabeth Betsey (Henderson) Whitney, was born 6 Jul 1812, Allen's Hill, Richmond, NY, and died 21 Apr 1867, Shelby, MI, where he was buried in the Utica Cemetery.
He married, 5 Feb 1834, West Bloomfield, NY, Phebe Ann Leach, daughter of Payne Kenyon and Joanna (Clark) Leach. She was born 12 Apr 1813, West Bloomfield, NY, and died after 1880.
Phoenix says the following:
- ". . . a farmer . . . . He kept an inn at Allen's Hill till 1842; and then moved to Royalton, N. Y., where he settled on a farm. In 1848, he moved to Shelby, Mich., . . . a communicant of the Prot. Episc. Church. . . . . His widow still lived in Shelby, two and a half miles from the village of Utica (in the same town), in 1874."

i. Chancy Leach8 Whitney, b. 26 Jul 1836, Allen's Hill, Richmond, NY; m. Adeline Sibyl Goucher. ii. Ambrose Worthington Whitney, b. 18 Jul 1838, Allen's Hill, Richmond, NY; moved, with his father, to Utica, MI, where he enlisted in Company H, First Regiment of Michigan Cavalry. He was accidentally shot, while on duty at Charlestown, VA, 6 March 1862, died the next day, and was buried near Charlestown. iii. Gurdon Clark Whitney, b. 4 Oct 1839, Allen's Hill, Richmond, NY; m. 11 Jan 1865, Shelby, MI, Abigail St. John, daughter of George and Permelia (Taft) St. John, b. 7 Jan 1844, Shelby, MI; a farmer. They dwelt at Shelby till 28 Apr 1867; and then settled at Deerfield, MI, where they were still living in 1874. iv. James Henderson Whitney, b. 22 Jul 1842, Allen's Hill, Richmond, NY; m. 16 Nov 1869, Macomb, MI, Nora Henrietta Hall, daughter of Isaac and Betsey (Daily) Hall, b. 11 Feb. 1845, Macomb, MI; a farmer and horticulturist. They settled at Black Lake, MI, 10 Sep 1871, and were still living there in 1874, without children. v. Minerva Elizabeth Whitney, b. 26 Nov 1845, Royalton Centre, NY; m. 14 Nov 1871, Shelby, MI, James Henry Trowbridge, son of Amariah Castaline and Rhoda More (Postle) Trowbridge, b. 10 Jan. 1843, Troy, MI, a manufacturer of lumber and shingles. They were living at Evart, MI, in 1874; and he was then proprietor of the Evart House. vi. Emily Joanna Whitney, b. 17 Sep 1848, Royalton Centre, NY; was living at Evart, MI, in 1874, with her sister. vii. Adeline Ellen Whitney, b. 21 Aug 1850, Shelby, MI. viii. Charles Edwin Whitney, b. 14 Aug 1852, Shelby, MI; m. Jennie Myrtle Cannon. ix. Luna Henderson Whitney, b. 27 Nov 1854, Shelby, MI; d. 23 Aug 1863, Shelby, MI, where she was buried in Utica Cemetery
