Family:Whitney, Harrison Otis (1822-1890)
See Genealogy of the descendants of John White of Wenham and Lancaster, p. 424.
Harrison Otis8 Whitney (William7, Peter6, Aaron5, Moses4, Moses3, Richard2, John1), son of William7 and Zilpah (Eager) Whitney, was born 7 Apr 1822, Northborough, MA,[1] and died 10 Sep 1890, Haverhill, MA, aged 68 years 5 months 3 days, of chronic cystitis.[2]
Marriage intentions were published, 19 Sep 1847, for him and "Miss" Ann E. Marsh, "both of Quincy".[3] He married, 10 Oct 1847 or 11 Oct 1848, Quincy, MA, Ann E. Marsh, both "of Quincy", daughter of Thomas H. and Susanna (-----) Marsh.[4] She was born 4 Sep 1824, and died 2 Mar 1893 [Pierce] or 21 Mar 1893, Haverhill, MA, aged 68 years 6 months 18 days, of pneumonia.[5]
Harrison O. Whitney, born in Northborough, MA, lost his parents in early life and was taken in charge by an uncle in Quincy, MA. He later on married and here his two children were born. In the early sixties he removed to Haverhill, MA. By trade he was a bookbinder, but Haverhill being a shoe city, he soon engaged in the manufacture of paper boxes, mostly for the shoe trade. He descended from a family of ministers and inherited the clerical disposition and was formed by nature for the profession, but the lack of education caused by the death of his parents, and his consequent lack of confidence in his ability prevented him doing the work for which he seemed in every other way so admirably fitted. He was devoted to his church and religion and was for many years, I think twenty-five, clerk of the First Parish church of Haverhill, and also its Sunday-school superintendent. He lived as nearly a perfect life in his quiet, modest way as is possible for human life to attain. He resided Haverhill, MA.
