John7 Whitney (James6, Richard5, Richard4, Richard3, Richard2, John1), son of James6 and Rachel (Lawton) Whitney, was born 20 Jul 1796, Harvard, MA,[1] and died 3 Apr 1859, Clinton, MA, aged 62 years 8 months, of heart disease.[2]

He married firstly, 15 Dec 1819, Harvard, MA, Emily Meeds,[3] daughter of Jason and Silence (Atherton) Meeds. She was born 8 Jan 1796, Harvard, MA, and apparently died before 1838.

Marriage intentions were published 21 Apr 1838, Lancaster, MA, for him "Capt." and "Miss" Rosetta Childs "of Henniker, N.H."[4] He married secondly, 8 May 1838, Henniker, NH, Rosella Childs,[5] daughter of Josiah and Abigail (Ward) Childs. She was born 24 Aug 1815, Henniker, NH, and died 12 Mar 1904, Worcester, MA, aged 88 years 6 months 17 days, of fractured hip. She, of Lancaster, married secondly, 10 Jan 1865, Clinton, MA, John Edgarton of Clinton, b. about 1809, Shirley, MA, son of Leonard and Charity (-----) Edgarton.[6]

Rosella C. Whitney was a church member, 30 Apr 1838, First Universalist Society of Lancaster.[7] Probably he was the "John M. Whitney" who was also a member on the same day.{{ref|8} Mrs. Rosella C. Whitney was admitted to the church from Lancaster, 2 Sep 1838, Hillside Church, "Evangelical Congregational Church of Bolton, Lancaster, Sterling and Stow".[8]
