Samuel6 Whitney (Abner5, John4, Isaiah3, Thomas2, John1), son of Abner5 ans Sarah (Hilton) Whitney, was born 1759, Lunenburg, MA, and died 25 Sep 1835.

Intentions of marriage were published 24 Mar 1781, Gorham, ME, for him and Hannah Thompson,[1] daughter of Samuel and Sarah (Rounds) Thompson. She was born in 1760, and died 1814. Her mother married secondly Ebenezer5 Whitney, his father's third cousin.

He was in the Revolutionary army, and when 78 years of age was granted a pension. He resided in Falmouth, Readfield, and Farmington, Maine.

Revolutionary War soldier - Served in Bagaduce Expedition, with brother Uriel, under Capt. Alexander McLellan, Gorham company, Col. Jonathan Mitchell's Cumberland County Regiment, June 1779. He was granted a pension when he was 78 years of age:

"Samuel, MA Line, S29542, he appl 1 Apr 1818 in Kennebec Co MA (ME), in 1820 sol was aged 61 a res of Winthrop ME with a wife Anna aged 56, sol reapplied 17 Jul 1832 at Winthrop ME".[2]

This establishes his residence in Winthrop, ME, and allows him to be identified in the 1820 and 1830 censuses.

He appears in Capt. Britton's List of First Families in Otisfield, (ME) as having arrived 3 Sep 1780. Recorded as having lived in Falmouth, Readfield and Farrington Maine, however, there wasn't a town or township by the name of Farrington in Maine, and he was not found in either Farmingdale or Farmington records. In 1790 Census in Falmouth, ME, head of household male, 4 males under 16 and one female over 16, no other residents present. Himself, sons: Samuel [8 yrs], Stephen [6 yrs], William [4 yrs], and Barzelia [2 yrs]. Source references for above: F. C.
