Samuel7 Whitney (Levi6, Samuel5, Samuel4, Richard3, John2, Henry1), son of Levi6 and Harriet (Sherwood) Whitney, was born 5 Jan 1815, Upper Highland, Philipstown, NY, and died 12 Apr 1866, Gainesville, NY. He was buried in Pike Cemetery, Pike, NY.[1]

He married firstly, 5 Oct 1836, Fishkill, NY, Jane Scholefield, daughter of James and Hannah (Shaw) Scholefield. She was born 9 Jul 1817, in the Purdy neighborhood, Philipstown, NY, and died 1 Jul 1856, Pike, NY. She was buried in Pike Cemetery, Pike, NY.[2]

He married secondly, 5 Apr 1858, Pike, NY, Clarissa (Crandall) Carpenter. She died May 1863, Pike, NY. She was buried in Pike Cemetery, Pike, NY.[3] She had married firstly ----- Carpenter.

He married thirdly, 15 Feb 1863, Gainesville, NY, Phebe (Nichols) Hastings. She was born about 1808, NY, and died after 1870.

Phoenix says the following:

". . . a farmer . . . . He settled in Philipstown; lived, from 1842 to 1844, in Fishkill; returned to Philipstown; and moved from there, 5 May 1852, to Pike, N.Y. . . . . He . . . settled in Gainesville . . . ."

i. Hannah Retta8 Whitney, b. 27 Aug 1838, Upper Highlands, Philipstown, NY; d. 15 Sep 1922, Cargill Mountain, NY; m. 20 June 1866, Philipstown, NY, John Broas Cargill, son of James and Phebe (Broas) Cargill, b. 11 Jan 1831, Philipstown, NY; a farmer. They were living in Nov 1874, within a quarter of a mile of the Dutchess County line.
ii. Elizabeth Whitney, b. 8 Dec 1839, Philipstown, NY; m. 20 Jun 1858, Rushford, NY, Myron Morgan, son of Samuel and Clarion (Holt) Morgan, b. 7 Sep 1837, Portage, NY; a farmer. They dwelt at Allen, NY, till 1859; at Genesee Falls, two years; at Eagle, NY, two years; at Pike, NY, five years; then settled at Rushford, and were living there in 1874.
iii. Harriet Whitney, b. 28 Feb 1841, Philipstown, NY; was living at Galesburgh, IL, in 1874, unmarried.
iv. Sereno Banks Whitney, b. 1 May 1842, Fishkill, NY; m.(1)Rhoda Rebecca Crowell; m.(2) Esther Crowell; m.(3) Mary J. (Halstead) Whitney; m.(4) Eva May (Doner) Locke.
v. Isaac Scolefield Whitney, b. 2 Jan 1844, Fishkill, NY; enlisted at Pike, NY, in Company C, 104th Regiment, New York State Volunteer Infantry; was wounded in the battle of Antietam, MD, 17 Sep 1862, died the next morning, and was buried in grave 218, lot B, section 25, of the National Cemetery at Antietam. Gravestone in Pike Cemetery, Pike, NY.[4]
vi. Abram Purdy Whitney, b. 7 Mar 1846, Philipstown, NY; enlisted in Company A, 140th Regiment, New York Volunteers; was killed in the battle of The Wilderness, 6 May 1864, Spotsylvania Co., VA, and was buried on the battle-ground. Gravestone in Pike Cemetery, Pike, NY.[5]
vii. James Levi Whitney, b. 26 Jun 1848, Philipstown, NY; a farmer; lived at Rushford, NY, in 1874, unmarried; not found in 1900.
viii. Marana Whitney, b. 3 Jul 1850, Philipstown, NY; d. 24 Jul 1915, Perry, NY; m. 2 Dec 1873, Rushford, NY, James F. Russell.
ix. George Hutchinson Whitney, b. 7 Jun 1853, Pike, NY; m. Mary J. Halstead.
