Samuel Whipple⁸ Whitney (James Jefferson⁷, James⁶, Richard⁵, Richard⁴, Richard³, Richard², John¹), son of James Jefferson⁷ and Emma Bethiah (Follett) Whitney, was born about Oct 1840 (according to census records), or 16 Oct 1838 (per death record), MA, and died 16 Jan 1921, Woodhaven, NY.^[1] He was buried in Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY.^[2]

He married firstly, before 1874, Hannah E. Bush, daughter of Richard and Catharine Wood (Decker) Bush. She was born about 1846, Staten Island, NY, and died 26 Feb 1884, Brooklyn, NY.^[3] She was buried in Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY.^[4]

He married secondly, before 1892, Sophia Barber. She was born about 1842, England, and died 14 Mar 1893, Brooklyn, NY.^[5] She was buried in Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY.^[6]

He married thirdly, 9 Sep 1895, Kings Co., NY, Rosina Fegyveresi,^[7] daughter of Francis and Louise (-----) Fegyveresi. She was born Sep 1870, Gallatin, NY, and died 1929. She was buried in Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY.^[8]

His widow Rose applied for a widow's pension, 5 Mar 1926, NY, Application #1,243,797, for his service in the 1st Massachusetts Cavalry.
