Stephen6 Whitney (Josiah5, Richard4, Richard3, Richard2, John1), son of Josiah5 and Sarah (Farr) Whitney, was born 1 May 1757, Harvard, MA,[1] and died after 1810, Lynn, MA.

He married firstly, 6 Feb 1783, Persis Locke, daughter of Joseph and Mary (Ayers) Locke. She was born 1757, Shutesbury, MA, and died 22 Jun 1806, Deerfield, MA, aged 49 years.[2]

He, of Hadley, married secondly, 24 Mar 1809, Sterling, MA, Cathy Brown of Sterling, MA.[3]

He was born in Harvard, and resided in Roxbury, NH. He served in the Revolutionary war, and participated in the battle of Bennington, in 1777; was in the company from Harvard, commanded by Capt. Hezekiah Whitney. From 1798 to 1808, he kept an inn at Bloody Brook, in Deerfield, Massachusetts, near the site of the Indian massacre of 1675. In 1809 he resided in Sterling. He resided Shutesbury, Deerfield and Lynn, MA.
