Volney Beckner7 Whitney (John6, Benjamin5, Daniel4, Henry3, John2, Henry1), son of John6, was born 16 Jul 1811, Romulus, NY, and died 18 Sep 1864, Adams, MI, where he was buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
He married, 2 Jan 1848, Adams, MI, Fanny Melissa Austin, daughter of George Washington and Zaidee (Munger) Austin. She was born 4 Apr 1825, Locke, NY, and died after Jan 1875. She married secondly, before 1880, John Lee, of Wheatland, MI.
Phoenix says the following:
- ". . . a farmer; . . . . They settled in Adrian, Mich.; and, in June 1864, moved to Adams, where he died 18 Sept. 1864, and was buried in Evergreen Cemetery. She was still living there in Jan. 1875."

They settled, 8 Nov 1871, at Chester, MI, and were living there in June 1875. iii. Ellen Whitney, b. 9 Nov 1852, Adrian, MI; died 2 Dec 1852, Adrian, MI, where she was buried in Adrian Centre Cemetery. iv. John Mason Whitney, b. 11 Nov 1853, Adrian, MI; died 27 Nov 1853, Adrian, MI, where he was buried in Adrian Centre Cemetery. v. Ida Adelia Whitney, b. 7 May 1855, Adrian, MI; was living with her mother, at Osseo, MI, in Jan 1875. vi. Jane Whitney, b. 10 Jul 1857, Adrian, MI; d. 9 Nov 1857, Adrian, MI, where he was buried in Adrian Centre Cemetery. vii. Edward Everett Whitney, b. 5 Sep 1859, Adrian, MI; drowned 13 Aug 1874, Adams, MI, where he was buried in Evergreen Cemetery. viii. Esther Amelia Whitney, b. 26 Jul 1861, Adrian, MI; was living with her mother, at Osseo, MI, in Jan 1875. ix. Charles Whitney, b. 12 Nov 1863, Adrian, MI; was living with his mother, at Osseo, MI, in Jan 1875, the only male descendant of his grandfather, bearing the name of Whitney.
