William7 Whitney (Charles6, Samuel5, Abraham4, Joseph3, John2, Henry1), son of Charles6 and Sally Forrester (Stanton)(Harding) Whitney, was born 7 Feb 1823, St. John, NB, and died 18 Nov 1863, at sea, off Cape Hatteras. He was buried at sea.
He married, 4 Jul 1844, Boston, MA, Mary Mitchell,[1] daughter of John and Jane (Davey) Mitchell. She was born 5 Oct 1821, Plymouth, Devonshire, England, was baptized 3 Dec 1821, Devonport Morice, Devonshire, England, and died 21 Jun 1914, Bellefontaine, MO. She married secondly, 11 Jul 1868, Boston, MA, Solomon W. Houston, son of Robert and Elizabeth (-----) Houston, born about 1821, Bergen Point, NY, a trader, as his second wife.[2] He died 8 Sep 1878, Wendell, MA, of asphyxia. Thereafter she resumed the name of Whitney.
Phoenix says the following:
- "William Whitney, b. in St. John, N.B., 7 Feb. 1823; married 4 July 1844, in Boston, Mass., Mary Mitchell. He died in 1864."

James Frederick Whitney, b. 7 Nov 1850, St. John, NB; d. 21 Apr 1919, Cambridge, MO, or Cambridge, MA; was living at 75 Marlborough Street, Boston, MA, in 1874. Not found in U.S. census records. v. Henry Whitney, b. 22 Mar 1852, St. John, NB; m.(1) Mary L. Fowler; m.(2) Sarah Jane Currie; m.(3) Margaret Rebecca McManus. vi. Charles Whitney, b. 18 Apr 1855, St. John, NB; d. 1 Apr 1924, Westerly, RI; m. 30 Aug 1909, Stonington, CT, Minnie Jordan; was living at 2 Commonwealth Avenue, or 82 Blackstone Street, Boston, MA, in 1872. vii. George Edward Whitney, b. 12 Aug 1859, Halifax, NS; d. 3 Jul 1934, Buffalo, NY; son of "William H. & Anna", m.(1) 23 Jul 1881, Providence, RI, Cordelia Aloysius Flynn,[3] d. 10 Dec 1906, Boston, MA, dau. of Francis and Bridget (O'Malley) Flynn;[4] m.(2) 16 Jan 1926, Plainfield, NJ, Laura Augusta Brown Armstrong; was living at 75 Marlborough Street, Boston, MA, in 1874; in 1884 was a photographer at 16 Melrose St.; in 1886 was a printer at 108 G St. Children:

By 1880, Mary (Mitchell)(Whitney) Houston had gone back to using the Whitney surname.
