John8 Whitney (John7, Palmer6, Joseph5, Timothy4, John3, John2, John1), son of John7 and Rachel (Ward) Whitney, was born 23 Feb 1846, Compton, IL. He probably died before 1880.

He married, 8 Feb 1875, Elgin, IL, Etta Shipman, daughter of Ensign and Maria (-----) Shipman. She was born Sep 1861, Kane Co., IL. She married, before 1900, ----- Boraland.

He is a dealer in live stock; resided Wasco, IL, and Hebron, NE.

Notes

If Etta Shipman in the 1880 Census record were the wife of John Whitney, why is she not listed with that surname? Also, she is really very young, at 13, to have married in 1875, although the marriage record does appear in Kane County. It seems possible that John died between 1878 and 1880.
