John Whitney, parentage unknown but perhaps the son of John and Elizabeth(-----) Whitney, b. ca. 1806, Llanover or Blarnavon (Blaenafon), Monmouthshire, Wales.
He married Ann (-----), b. ca. 1806, Monmouthshire, Wales or Cattwg, Glamorganshire, Wales.
In 1841, he was listed as a collier and the family resided at Bows below the Church, Blaenavon Iron Works, Llanover Upper, Monmouthshire.
In 1861 he and his sons were listed as a coal miners.
i. Elizabeth Whitney, b. ca. 1828, Monmouthshire, Wales. She was not listed with the family in 1861. ii. William Whitney, b. ca. 1830, Monmouthshire, Wales. He was a coal miner. iii. Ann Whitney, b. ca. 1835, Blarnavon (Blaenafon), Monmouthshire, Wales. She was not listed with the family in 1861. iv. Thomas Whitney, b. ca. 1838, Llanover or Blarnavon (Blaenafon), Monmouthshire, Wales. He was a coal miner. v. John Whitney, b. ca. 1840, Blarnavon (Blaenafon)Monmouthshire, Wales. He was not listed with the family in 1861. vi. Robert Whitney, b. ca. 1842, Llanover or Blarnavon (Blaenafon), Monmouthshire, Wales. He was a coal miner.
