Jonas J.8 Whitney (Jefferson J.7, Jonas6, Jonathan5, Jonathan4, Jonathan3, Benjamin2, John1), son of Jefferson J.7 and Mary Ann (Jones) Whitney, was born 7 Sep 1842, Ontario Co., NY, and died 1 Feb 1887, Hopewell, NY. He was buried in the Chapman Cemetery, Hopewell, NY.[1]
He married, before 1875, Alvira S. Gorman, daughter of ----- and Nancy (?Depuy/Hardenberg?) Gorman. She was born 21 Apr 1848, Fallsburg, Sullivan Co., NY, and died 16 Jan 1882, probably Hopewell, NY. She was buried in the Chapman Cemetery, Hopewell, NY.[2]
Ontario County Journal, Canandaigua, Ontario County, NY, February 11, 1887:
- Jonas Whitney, of Hopewell, died on Wednesday last and was buried the following Thursday, the funeral being held at the house of Jefferson Whitney, the father of the deceased. Mr. Whitney had been a helpless invalid for a number of years past, so that his death came not unexpectedly.
