Josiah D.7 Whitney (Simeon Howard6, Abraham5, Abraham4, Isaiah3, Thomas2, John1), son of Simeon Howard6 and Nancy (Barnard) Whitney, was born 7 Sep 1816,[1] Harvard, MA, and died 17 Dec 1846, Pepperell, MA, aged 30 years, of an accident.[2]

He married, 9 Oct 1838, Brattleboro, VT, Catherine Augusta Harvey,[3] daughter of John and Sarah (-----) Harvey. She was born 1819,[4] Leominster. She married secondly 30 Apr 1857, Worcester, MA, Albert Crain, both of Leominster, MA, son of Ebenezer Crain, born about 1811, Walpole, NH.[5] He died 10 Aug 1863, Leominster, MA.

He was born in Harvard, MA. His father was a farmer, and he left home very early in life to earn his own living. He went to Shirley, MA, to work for a paper manufacturer, where he remained for two years, going thence to Leominster to learn the trade of carpenter and builder. At the end of his apprenticeship he went to Worcester and remained two years. When 22 years of age in 1838, he engaged in business on his own account in Pepperell, MA. He soon had an excellent business and rebuilt his carpenter shop much larger, and furnished it will all the appliances for business, and it lacked but one thing more, a grindstone; that he bought and carried to his shop in his team, and when he reached his shop he took the grindstone on his shoulder to carry in, when his foot slipped (it was in December) on the ice and he fell, the stone falling upon his neck. He was taken to his home and it was found that his neck was broken. He lived only a few hours. He died at the age of 30. He resided Leominster, MA.
