Merrick8 Whitney (Artemas H.7, John Smith6, Thomas5, Thomas4, Eleazer3, Thomas2, John1), son of Artemas H.7 and Nabby (Skinner) Whitney, was born 8 May 1832, Springfield, MA, and died 14 Mar 1888, Hartford, CT.

He "of Ludlow" married firstly, 25 Dec 1856, Palmer, MA, Hannah C. Tourtellott "of Belchertown", daughter of Esick and Mary (Dexter) Tourtellott.[1] She was born about 1831, Brimfield or Monson, MA, and died 6 Dec 1857, Ludlow, MA, aged 26 years, of consumption.[2]

He married secondly, 30 Mar 1859, Palmer, MA, Hannah Maria Peters, daughter of George and Lydia (Whitcomb) Peters.[3] She was born 16 Sep 1837, Roxbury, MA, and died 29 Jul 1915, Malden, MA, aged 77 years 10 months 13 days, of enlarged heart and mitral regurgitation.[4]

He was a merchant. He resided Hartford, CT.

NOTE: Jessie Estelle Warner m. 27 June 1894, Malden, MA, Louis Melvin Newton. She was b. 28 Mar 1874, Westfield, MA, daughter of Frank D. and Ella J. (Chamberlain) Warner. How Jessie could be Hannah's step-daughter is a mystery.
